Gaspé sits at the eastern tip of the Gaspé Peninsula in Québec, where the St. Lawrence River opens into the Gulf and the land feels distinctly maritime. Its historical weight comes from its role in early European contact, Jacques Cartier’s arrival in 1534 is a defining moment, while fishing and seafaring have long shaped daily life and local identity. The town’s scale keeps that history grounded rather than monumental.

The surrounding landscape is rugged and expressive. Cliffs, headlands, and deep bays frame the coastline, while forests and rivers press in from the interior. Nearby Forillon National Park brings together sea, rock, and woodland, offering coastal trails, wildlife sightings, and wide views where land and water meet without much mediation.

Gaspé has a calm, wind-shaped character. Life moves with the seasons, and the town feels closely tied to weather, tides, and light. Visitors often notice the clarity of the air, the openness of the horizon, and a sense of being at an edge, geographically and emotionally, where nature sets the tone and human presence remains modest.
